Neck Pain

Neck pain is usually caused by immense stress and strain on muscles, tendons, and ligaments in the immediate area. Symptoms of neck pain include:

  • The inability to get comfortable and sleep well
  • sharp or dull pain in the shoulders and neck
  • Loss of mobility of the head

Neck pain can strike anyone, at any age for a number of surprising reasons. A few causes are poor posture, carrying heavy items, sleeping with little or no head support, sports injuries, falls, and whiplash.

Physical therapy can help people suffering from neck pain to concentrate on movements that help reduce pain, swelling, and increase blood circulation for faster healing.

My Neck is Stiff

Stiff necks are typically caused by soft tissue strains or neck muscle strains and they’re characterized by neck immobility and soreness. In most cases, your stiffness and pain may go away on its own in about a week.

My Neck is Sore

Neck pain or neck stiffness can happen for a variety of reasons including:

  • Poor posture
  • Overuse
  • Injury
  • Falling
  • Whiplash

In most cases, a sore neck isn’t serious and it can be treated with rest and over-the-counter pain relievers. If your neck pain is severe or extends over a week, you may have a serious injury.
