Julie Burtis, DPT, CMTPT
Julie enjoys working with clients of all fitness levels who desire to improve their quality of life, and is particularly interested in helping patients address persistent, complex pain conditions. Julie specializes in designing individualized exercise progressions that enable patients to safely rebuild strength and stability. Julie firmly believes in the body’s ability to heal given the right conditions and utilizes Pilates equipment, TRX suspension training, stability balls, and weight training to help her patients return to doing what they love. She is certified as an instructor in both Iyengar Yoga and Stott Pilates Rehabilitation. She continues to study with Kazuko Mumma, an innovative exercise physiologist in Eugene, Oregon. Julie has completed extensive training in the diagnosis and management of myofascial pain and is a certified myofascial trigger point therapist. She also has a special interest in pelvic pain and postpartum rehabilitation and is working towards certification at the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute in Seattle.
Julie received a Bachelor of Art from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, double majoring in comparative religion and studio art. She then went on to receive a Doctorate in physical therapy from Pacific University in Hillsboro, Oregon. Prior to becoming a physical therapist, Julie taught yoga for many years and made multiple trips to India to study meditation and yoga with BKS Iyengar. She is an advocate for integrating mindfulness, breathing, and exercise to resolve painful movement patterns.
Julie is a long-term meditation practitioner and serves on the Board of Directors of Dharma Rain Zen Center. She lives in southeast Portland with her husband, Gabe.
