New Heights is excited to introduce the newest member of our physical therapy team, Matthew Walsh!
Matt graduated as a PT from Cumberland College of Health Sciences in Sydney Australia and has been a therapist now for over 25 years. Since graduating in 1987, Matt has worked in Australia, Canada, and the USA in Seattle & Vancouver, Washington. He now lives in Portland near Mt. Tabor with his wife and three kids.
In addition to treating patients, Matt has an extensive teaching background. He has presented on running biomechanics, clinical reasoning and the treatment of orthopedic conditions at both State and National levels. Matt has also has wide-ranging sports physical therapy experience and has worked with groups such as the PGA Seniors Tour, the Canadian national cross country ski team, and the Nike Team Oregon project. Matt is a certified sports physiotherapist (Australia SPG, Level III) and is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. He is currently completing his doctoral thesis on the clinical reasoning of advanced orthopedic physical therapists. In addition to his clinical work, he organizes a case history study group with other local therapists.
Matt has a personal passion for movement in almost any form. He has a competitive and representative level background in Rugby and Cricket and he is an avid runner. He still plays touch rugby and has represented the USA at the World Masters Games in the past. He loves to run with his wife, Bridgette.
Matt treats a wide variety of orthopedic conditions with a particular interest and expertise in running related injury, technique and rehabilitation. He also enjoys treating complex chronic spinal pain by focusing on integrating spinal and peripheral joint manual therapies with therapeutic exercises and patient specific education.
When not working, teaching, or studying, Matt enjoys cooking, body surfing, and dancing. Although, when dancing, he wishes he could move like his wife who is, “the real thing.”
As with all of our therapists, Matt treats using evidence based clinical reasoning and brings another invaluable perspective to the depth of knowledge already the trademark of New Heights Integrative therapies.
